Outdoor Open Burning Prohibited
Outdoor Open burning such as “fire pits”, burn barrels, and outdoor fireplaces are prohibited within Bristol Township as per local ordinance and the International Fire Code.
Smoke created by outdoor open burning can directly affect the health and well-being of people who live or work nearby, by aggravating respiratory conditions, irritating eyes and lungs, obscuring visibility, and creating annoying odors. Smoke created by open burning is especially dangerous for people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and pneumonia. In addition, smoke from open burning often leads to “Good Intent” 9-1-1 calls, whereas a person sees the smoke from an open burn and calls 9-1-1 to report what he/she believes is a fire. This in turn results in fire trucks needlessly responding to what may have been mistakenly reported as a “house fire”.
